Five area fire companies responded to an early Saturday morning fire that displaced nine families in a Hanover apartment complex.

The fire at 145 Carlisle St. complex started around 1:30 a.m. and was quickly extinguished by Hanover-area firefighters.

There were no injuries, and the fire was contained to one apartment, according to Hanover Fire Department Captain Joseph Myers.

The fire started in the first floor apartment bedroom, Myers said. Everything in that apartment was lost.

There are ten total apartments in the building, and three of those had severe smoke and water damage, according to a man who said Saturday afternoon that he owned the place. He declined to give his name or comment further.

The next day, the windows of the first floor, which had been broken, were boarded up and a cleaning crew was outside sweeping up the broken glass.

The fire was contained quickly, and the scene was cleared at 2:41 a.m., according to Myers.

He said the cause of the fire did not appear to be suspicious, but is unknown, and the fire marshal will investigate.

The Greater Hanover Red Cross housed six of the displaced families in a motel, the other families are staying with relatives, according to Adam Smith with the Red Cross.

They also provided vouchers for food, clothing, and replacement of emergency medical supplies. In addition the Red Cross provided beverages and snacks to all emergency personnel.
